How to convince my mom into letting me dye hair?

Q. I have boring light brown hair and I would like to dye it turquoise or any fun colour really. My mom says that letting her child look like that would make her look like an irresponsible parent. She's let me dye it a very dark brown almost black before. We have Splat, but she'll only let me have streaks and even then it can only be two light ones. Any suggestions? Ps. sucking up doesn't work.... sadly

A. I think you should stick to just some streaks and more tame color choice for now. When you turn 18, you can do whatever you want with your hair. You could try for a fun cut or style, maybe, instead of a wild color. Maybe you could convince her to have some more fun colored streaks in your hair. Turquoise would look great as streaks in your hair! I did something to my hair called peekaboo highlights which looked awesome and very interesting with my layered cut. Google it! It's basically all the color under a top layer of normal hair color. I did teal with an auburn color hair and it looked really great! Maybe you could get your mother to let you play with a dirty blonde color and some pink streaks? Dark, deep brown with some purple or blue? Find some fun combinations of more natural colors to combine with a few bits of fun colors so you and your mother find a sort of compromise, perhaps. Show her pictures that some pieces of fun colors can look really nice.

Your mom probably pictures you looking like this with "fun" colored hair:

What are cute hairstyles for long hair?
Q. I have long (down to my hips) curly hair. What would b some cute hairstyles I could do, that don't take too long(15 min max)?

A. A personal favorite of mine is the "half up" style. Just seperate the top layer of your hair from the bottom, and secure with elastic. The style bangs :)

Example: http://www-static.weddingbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/21/long-we01.jpg

Fishtail braid? Can be used down back, to the side or up. I LOVE this one :) just google tutorials :)

Example: http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=side+fishtail+braid&um=1&hl=en&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4SUNC_enCA400CA405&tbm=isch&tbnid=3AADktS-12PdTM:&imgrefurl=http://www.beautyramp.com/5-braided-hairstyles.html&docid=xIzKreXc0EQ6uM&imgurl=http://www.instablogsimages.com/1/2011/11/08/fishtail_braid_75f2c.jpg&w=600&h=450&ei=m3C4T9LJAcKRgQetsqzgCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=454&vpy=576&dur=99&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=58&ty=128&sig=113205060414732051128&page=3&tbnh=170&tbnw=214&start=64&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:27,s:64,i:269&biw=1280&bih=868

I also like crimped natural hair. When your hair is wet the night before, do two pigtail braids. Sleep with them in and when you wake up it will look like this.

Example: http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=Crimped+hair&um=1&hl=en&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4SUNC_enCA400CA405&tbm=isch&tbnid=Nt29RXWSqRhWEM:&imgrefurl=http://www.beautysnob.com/2009/02/images_from_peoplecom.html&docid=aTbk9Dwm2pZqcM&imgurl=http://www.beautysnob.com/images2008/crimped%252520hair.jpg&w=400&h=300&ei=HnG4T7WDCJHqgQeIxOSqCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=400&vpy=191&dur=225&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=184&ty=100&sig=113205060414732051128&page=1&tbnh=150&tbnw=194&start=0&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:141&biw=1280&bih=868

Another favorite of mine is the braided headband. Just braid bangs (or front hair) from one side to another.

And if none of these are working for you, I love this webstite.

what are the current trends in clothes shops?
Q. I have a job interview in a clothes shop and was wondering what current fashion trends are.

A. I don't follow women's fashion but I can provide the guys' trends for fall 2012 through summer 2013, or at least how they're predicted to be. This is according to major runway shows in Europe, so trends in American stores or unique shops will vary.

Some general trends: Slim pants/jeans (sometimes skinny), rolled up once or twice, JACKETS, hairstyles that are short on the sides/back and styled on top, accessories like watches and bracelets always make you look more stylish

Fall 2012 has some very light blues and oranges leftover from summer 2012 but they're only thrown in. Mainly, it's getting darker with blacks and grays, occasionally an obscure white or yellow dominated outfit. "A play on fabric" as Armani calls it is trendy, mixing different patterns and fabrics that you wouldn't normally match, as long as they go together in color. Outfits should stay simple and sleek though.

Winter 2012-13 is best described as "dark" and sometimes "tribal" with almost all black, brown and gray on jackets, pants and shoes/belts. Fabric play still revealant: For example, charcoal sweater with leather jacket throw-over.

Spring/summer 2013 should be sleek and include Mediterranean colors not only in just clothes but especially accessories. Like turquoise belts/shoes, bags and shirt accents. "Easter" colors is a good way to put it also. The base colors are blue and green.

Bleaching already damaged hair to remove dye?
Q. My hair is damaged and has been for ages. My hair has been dyed with semi permanent brown dye, and I want to be blonde again! Will bleaching it take the colour out? Thanks x

Also, going to a salon is not an option.
First comment - I know about hair dye allergies. I'm allergic to hair dye and have bad reactions, but i have strong antihistamines to help reduce the swelling.

A. No, it won't. You'd rather be blonde, but your hair will fall out before you get there.
Google Salon Hair Dye Lawsuits. About 336,000 results (0.17 seconds) Dec. 2011
When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.
Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."
Another example: ok i did my hair yesterday i DIDN'T bleach it ,but im not sure what its called but she took the color out of my hair and then dies it a blond color and my head was on fire it killed me so after that i hated my hair color so i colored it my self a darker color, it looked so ugly and it burned me again it rully hrt so after i washed it my mom checked it for me and found small spots of blood all over my top scalp like over 20 of em now im scared and don't know why its there is it from the color am i sick and something is wrong ??

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloween party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Its made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Its well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. 11-22-11. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND.

One example: MY HAIR DRESSER DYED MY HAIR GREY. I've been crying for the last 2 hours, I want to kill that bish for destroying what was amazing bleach blonde hair. AND to make things worse, she cut my extensions WAY too short.

A WOMAN was temporarily blinded when her face swelled up "like a football" following what she told was a severe reaction to hair dye.
Carmen Rowe, 25, from Swansea was hospitalised for three days after using the Clairol 'Nice n' Easy' natural black colour. She said: "I lost my job, all for the sake of a glamorous hairstyle. I just want to warn parents what could happen." She claimed she carried out a skin test 48 hours before using the dye without a problem and has been colouring her hair since she was 13.
